I'm going on a Santa steam train ride on Thursday. (Unless the Uk is on a circuit breaker/lockdown as our numbers are very high). I've got to travel an hour by car to get to it so the actual steam train ride round trip will probably be less than my total travel time but I'm looking forward to it. It's a family thing we've got a carriage to ourselves and our granddaughter is already excited about it even though her only experience of trains is Thomas the Tank Engine on TV and the little wooden train set she has in her room.

Personally I enjoy any train, but there is something almost universally nostalgic and romantic about those "...relic[s] from a bygone age."

As a child I loved trains - the big, noisy, smelly ones. My mother would take me to one of our two stations to watch a passenger train arrive and depart, then we would go to the second station to watch the freight trains.

OHHHHHHHHHH I love it ronnie!! What a fun Christmas 'adventure'!! Only once I rode on an old steam train - through the woods to a little touristy town Wakefield... it wasn't Christmas time - but it was so much fun!! Enjoy your trip (I'll keep my fingers crossed that you don't go back into lock down before you go)
