Today is World Opera Day

Did you know that? I had no idea there was a special day for Opera. Apparently it's a day for celebrating opera and for encouraging people of all ages to develop a passion for it.  Good idea but personally. I think prices need to come down so more people are able to afford to go.

I've seen a couple of operas and would love to go and see one in another country, like at the La Scala in Milan or at the Sydney Opera House.

What about you, do you like opera, have you seen any\?

Stay safe.

Have a good week.

Love,
Ronnie

I love opera but the only time I went to a live opera, Porgy and Bess, 2 tickets cost £160 pounds, and my partner and I could barely see the stage. Since then I've contented myself with CDs and televised opera.

I was once gifted tickets to "Carmen", and saw "Student Prince" and "Threepenny Opera" (if that counts) but other than those, my opera enjoyment has been through televised, radio, and recorded performance. And I couldn't count how many that encompassed over the years.

I had no idea of the day! I once went to a rehearsal of Die Fledermaus and it was fun. Other than that, I haven't been to an opera but am a big fan of Gilbert and Sullivan operettas. My grandfather used to sing me songs from The Mikado.

Hugs,
Hermione

I like so much opera.. and no idea about this int’l opera day xD
For good average quality/price in Europe, I can recommend you Paris (Bastille, Garnier, and others), Berlin (Staatsoper, Deutsche Oper and Kömische Oper), Vienna and Dresde.

Not an opera fan. Love to see the inside of old theatres. Loved the theatre when in London!

must admit am not a fan of opera - though do love Gilbert and Sullivan - yeah I know I'll be run out of town on a rail for using their name in the same sentence with Opera (grinning)

Oh - I'm beginning to think there's a special day for anything and everything now...

Too many people never get introduced to opera or get thrown into the deep end of the pool too early. But video like some of the You tube posts or a subscription service like Adagio are well worth exploring. If you spend some time with the music or the arias, chance are you will learn to love it

Roz - A lot of people are fans. Do you like ballet. Thanks.

Simon - Far too expensive for tickets. If they keep high prices, how on earth do they expect more people to attend

Kdpierre - I'd like to see Carmen. Thanks.

Hermione - What a lovely memory of your grandfather singing those song to you, Thanks.

Laxmi - Thank you for your recommendations. Maybe one day I would be able to visit one of these.

Red - Some of the old theatres in London are marvellous. Thanks.

Morningstar - LOL. Yes I was thinking the same. I said I wasn't a fan of opera until I saw one. Thanks.

Alan - Expense hold some people back. They maybe shold have (if they don't already) special days where tickets are more affordable. Thanks.

Love,
Ronnie
