A great fantasy. Never did, but after so little in person contact, it would be worth a try when lockdown ends. However, we have numerous implements, including five of those canes, and Cindy loves using them.

OK, I'm the odd person out for this one. Yes, I've done it more than once. A couple times in sex shops and once in a riding shop. All complied without hesitation and, yes, the purchase was made.
Mind you, I wouldn't do this just anywhere, and each request followed a conversation where it was clear that I wouldn't be offending anyone.

No, but I remember a scene from 9 1/2 weeks where the man tried the riding crop on the woman's thigh before he bought it.
There was also a scene in the Canadian reality show "Kink" that showed a woman having various floggers tried out on her bare bottom so she could choose the one she liked best.

The riding crop testing probably wasn't done in the movie version which was pretty watered down, but it was in the novel.
