I was passing the time of day with the proprietor when a gentleman walked in with a couple of old clocks for repair, he obviously knew the owners well as he was greeted by name and the owner's wife popped her head out from behind a little screen, which shields their working area, to say hello. The gentleman was quite a chatterer and started telling a story about a friend of his who'd just returned from Paris where he'd picked up an antique table at auction (he didn't say how much) and when he got it back here he had it valued at £45,000! Nice work if you can get it.
The gentleman explained what he wanted doing with the clocks and then asked if the fruit and veg shop was still open. The watchmaker's wife told him if he just looked out the window he'd be able to see it was, unless he needed a new pair of glasses, to which the customer (who I'd already decided must also be a social acquaintance) replied that she shouldn't be so cheeky or he'd put her over his knee and spank her bottom.......but then again she might just like that.
When I left the shop, walking down the street back to the office, I kept wishing I'd had the nerve to say something.
Perhaps something cheeky:)
Have a good week.

Hold up...Is that really true?
This has me chuckling. Right down the street, huh? Lol!
Lack of nerve, or not thinking of the right thing to say until later... it's a curse! But not as much as my face flaming when I really prefer it wouldn't. :-( Oh, well... ;-)

Irishey
I would have blushed too. When I was teaching one of my adult dance couples a few weeks ago one of them said something similar and I managed to joke back but it has set me wondering about them. I find myself looking for it. It's very distracting!!

Ronnie,
Sometimes, it is so difficult to hold our comments in public. LD would have said something, she is very cheeky.

LoL Ronnie,
Oh my, that would have made me blush too! I'd be worried any comment I made would give me away LoL
Hugs,
Roz
If I had a glass of wine in me..I may have said something, otherwise I would have smiled wide too!
That kind of thing catches us off guard and you don't know what to say. I'm just glad some are saying it out loud, when that happens it just becomes more normal.
Oh my goodness! I would have blushed too, and might or might not have thought of something clever to say.
Hugs,
Hermione
Loved hearing this. I had something happen recently that surprised me too. One of these days I will get it down and share it before it is forgotten which, in my case, doesn't take long.
Thanks for sharing this, Ronnie. With all the flap that's going on here in Puritan land, it's nice to know we are not alone.
I would have guessed you would have said something. Proves that I don't know you. I always try to rise to the occasion. Not the shy or blushing type.
Funny story... seems to me they must be within a decade of your age group... so a pert response could have been fun... you should ask people, who, unlike yourself, have time to think of a response... what their response would have been...
Response: definitely cheeky, I will count the spanks for you if you want to spank her now...

HI Ronnie: one additional thought... if it had been George Clooney, would you have offered your bottom instead?

Ashley - Yes, true. Thanks.
Irishey - If it wasn't anything to do about TTWD I probably would have said something, Thank you.
Jan - I was tempted to go back in the shop the next day to see if they said anything:) Thank you.
Joey - I normally would have said something but a little close to home and caught me off guard. Cheers.
Roz - Quite took me by surprise. Thanks
Minelle - With wine in me I probably would say more than I should:) Thanks.
PK - What's happening in blogland makes me wish I'd made a comment now. Thanks.
Hermione - Didn't expect to hear something like that. Thank you.
SG - My pleasure. Its been a rough week. I hope it passes quickly and our friends who have gone private feel safe to write again. Wonderful news about Emily. Thanks.
OBB - What would you or Bacall have said had it been either of you in my place? Thanks.
Red - LOL. That would have been a great response. I'll have to remember it for next time and yes to George Clooney:) Cheers.

Ronnie

Lol ;) those comments always take me by surprise too. A parent of my kids' friends said something about her husband spanking her if she ____ and I was too stunned to say anything lol :)
I just love these overheard comments! There are probably quite a lot of us around in the good old UK, but we are often too reserved to discuss such a thing!
I wonder if you watched the episode of "The Americans" the other night? Did you see the 'spanking scene'? It started okay with him spanking her bottom with his hand, then his belt, but then he lost it and thrashed her several times across the back and she was trying to get away. Not too good from our point of view. I'm surprised no one else seems to have picked it up yet.

Oh holy cow, that must have been awkward and exciting and hilarious!
Um, that's the first time I've heard the usage of
"donkey years" like that. It's funny.

Haha I so would have said something cheeky.. The mail man that comes by my office hes probably 60 yrs old. real nice guy. One day he came in and said "what are you doing?" I said "Nothing" He said " you need to work." I said "NAHH" He said " You need a spanking is what you need."
LOL if he only new!!! LOL makes you wonder has he spanked his wife?? Hmmm Should I ask?
Elle - You just don't expect someone to say anything about bottoms being spanked:) Thanks.
Ami - The Americas, no, never watched it. Why did he loose it? Thank you.
Fiona - I'm glad he only looked at me and didn't say anything. Thanks.
Daisy - LOL. Yes, ask him next time:)

lol, how many times have i overheard things like that and wondered... i often look at objects people are buying as well and see different "uses" for them , then wonder which use they will be used for.. hugs.. p.S. i never dare say anything on these times either, but MK does .
Saffy - Hello. I've done that on occasion. One time a lady asked me if I'd ever used a particular wooden paddle:) It was to serve bread on. Made me smile. Thanks.
