Shibari
No, I'd never heard of it either but this photo in yesterday's press caught my eye. Apparently it's the art of erotic bondage as practised in Japan, and one of the country's leading and most controversial photographers, Nobuyoshi Araki, is including some of it in an exhibition called 'Revive' at the Michael Hoppen Gallery in London which runs 27 July through 09 September.
I googled to find out a bit more.....
This art form is still part of Japanese society. Japanese women see this art form as part of Japanese heritage and I can speak from experience. I asked a beautiful, twenty-three year old Japanese woman: “Would you let me tie you up?” She said to me: “Of course, but only if you are myboyfriend.” Click for more from this article.
Well my! How enlightened are the Japanese!
I'm in London for an exhibition (fashion not fetish) on 03 August, I asked P if we'd have time to pop in, we never get time for these kind of things, maybe we should stop overnight I suggested. No need, he said, we only need 3-4 hours max at the exhibition, grab a bite to eat and we'll be back by mid evening. Boring, P, I know we don't need to stay over, that's the whole point, mix a little pleasure with business that's what I say. I probably won't get a stay over though.

Too bad you won't get a stayover. After viewing the exhibition, you probably could have some good fun at a hotel.
FD - hi, just what I was thinking :)

I love Shibari...it can be a truly beautiful art form all on its own. Several of my favourite photos are of quite complex shibari work.
love and hugs xxx
Ronnie - I have heard of it, but it's a little too extreme for my taste. It would be great if you could get to the exhibition if you're interested.
Hugs,
Hermione
Master has long been interested in Shibari, as well as others we know in our local Scene. I'm glad you're enjoying it!
:)
Ronnie, I would insist that Meow and I stayed over at a hotel after seeing that exhibit!
Furry hugs, Lash

Interesting post, Ronnie! I think the Japanese have an interesting culture and are enlightened in a variety of ways. I hope you get a chance to catch the exhibition too. It would be interesting to hear about.
There is a rope group that meets once a month in my area. I've never had the chance to attend one of these meetings, but I do find myself drawn to the various colored ropes when I get to visit the fetish shop downtown... Perhaps one day!
I hope P changes his mind, and you get to spend the night!
Hugs,
kitten
M:e - Have seen a couple of photos since finding it on Google and yes it say's Westerners also use it strictly for decorative purposes.
Hermione - For me too but I still would love to visit the exhibition.
Tapestry - Thanks. I don't know too much about it at all.
Lash - hello and welcome, maybe you could have a word with P for me :)
Spanking photo blog - Thank you
Daisy - More lust than art LOL Daisy.
Spanky - Hi, nice to see you here, thanks. Japan is a place I've always wanted to visit because of their different culture and their Geisha girls have always intersted me.
Kitten - Oh you should attend and tell us all about it. I didn't know they used coloured rope.
Google also said it differs from Western bondage in that the bottom is almost always immobilized or restrained to gain pleasure from being under the pressure and strain of the ropes, often squeezing the breasts or genitals.
Thank you all for stopping by.
