Poldark's tits

No I'm not being crude, it was in the Sunday Times. Camilla Long in fact, rabbiting on about the picture of its male star, naked from the waist up, which appeared on the front pages of all the popular papers in the week. Of course it was a publicity week in advance of the new Poldark series starting soon.

Now Camilla is an intelligent journalist, I don't always agree with what she says but I respect her and she does have a way with words. But I'd say, from her past writings, that she was staunchly feminist, absolutely against using women as objects and all for equality between the sexes. If she'd been around in Pankhurst's day she would certainly have been a prominent fighter for the cause.

So how come she seemed to approve a man being objectified, saw nothing wrong with a bit of titillation for the girl readers (or some of the boys too) and even referred to his pecs and nipples in a sexual manner. If it had been a picture of his co-start Demelza topless on some beach would her response have been the same, I wonder. And wouldn't it have brought an outcry from women all over the place? I suspect it would have.

Have a good week.

Women are taking over now. Soon there will be naked men on Page 3 of the Sun.

Hi Ronnie,

It almost seems to be reverse equality now. You are right, there would no doubt have been an outcry if it had been a woman.

Oh for sure if it had been a woman there would have been all sorts of objections! But for now, we at least can enjoy the objectification of this male :)

A topless Demelza would have caused an outcry if the writer had written about her in the same way, but what if they were both topless? What a lovely thought.

Oh, those dark, brooding looks! He got me from the very first trailer, dressed in his captain’s uniform. He’s so gorgeous, he doesn’t need to take his top off to get attention. Since he has though, what’s a girl to do but enjoy the sight?

Just another reason why women should go topless far more often than they do. It is natural for many women on beaches in Europe.
A question to all the women who read the comments: Have you ever gone topless outside of your home?
Another question is has their been any negative commentaries about this sexist reporting? Ronnie: Have you objected?
Fun topic. Thanks

Why is it okay for men to be topless but not for women? I couldn't explain it to my daughter when she was little and still not sure why it is now. But there is a reverse way of looking at things being sexist and a man doesn't get the same grief.

The tables are a turning - well at least some of them.

I quite agree with what you said above! It seems as though many woman think it’s okay to objectify men but would rage if it was a woman. I feel like saying.... ‘what’s sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander....’ not sure I got that right... but you get what I’m saying! :)

Oh, I could write a whole post about this topic, Ronnie!!! There is such a double standard now. The one that drives me crazy is that in television, film, and even advertisements, it is OK to portray men as stupid, but never women. I am sick of the whole thing.

So Says Ella!

Michael - I certainly hope not:) Thanks..

Roz - And it would be from the women. Thanks.

Fondles - And what a lovely sight:) Thanks.

Hermione - Now that would be intersting to see what people would say. Thanks.

Rosie - Oh me too. Not just a georgeous male but a really nice person. Well that's my opinion when I've seen him interviewed. Looking forward to Sunday.Thanks.

Red - A lot of people just don't feel comfortable going topless on the beach. Doesn't bother me either way, have done it and still do it depending on what beach were on. Not read anything. Thanks.

Blondie - Which is totlly wrong. Thanks.

SG - For now just let us frat our eyes on him. Thanks.

Ella - Now that's a post I'd love to read. Thanks.

Love,
Ronnie
