Delightful Smut

I was reading an old article recently about the "King of Saucy Postcards" Donald McGill. Apparently SIXTY of his postcards were due to be sold last year in the biggest auction of its kind in years. I don't know if they all were all sold as I couldn't find a follow up.

The first cards were issued in 1904. Sadly he died in 1962 with only £735 in the bank despite his illustrations selling 200m copies. His saucy cards were sold in coastal towns, were hugely popular during the first half of the 20th century.

He was once charged for breaking the Obscene Publications Act of 1857 and fined £50.00 as they found his double entrendes too risque.

I used to love looking at them when we went on UK holidays. Wished I'd kept the ones I had sent to me.

Here's a few for your enjoyment.

Not going to be around blogland much this week.

Have a good one.
