We were in Ego (it's a restaurant) the other day, it was
lunchtime, we hardly ever do lunch out but we'd been talking a few things over
while we were out and wanted to keep the flow going. We had a dish of olives
and a couple of Caesar salads. They serve the olives with posh little
plastic cocktail sticks with a tiny logo, not the wooden ones we use
at home, and one of them was bent in a shallow curve.
P picked it up and was looking at it and rotating it between his
finger and thumb while we were talking, then suddenly, inexplicably,
announced that if we were in Lilliput, and of Lillipution size, he could bend
me over one of the tables and cane me with it. He said it was nice
and bendy. Then he resumed almost exactly where he'd left off talking as if
he'd never departed from the conversation flow at all. I even wondered if I'd
imagined him saying it.
When we were ready to go P went to the
gents, I paid the bill and popped the little cocktail stick into my handbag. I
shall ask him about it one day, or throw it away if the moment has faded, it
was just so out of keeping with my husband's usual behaviour. Odd little
things happen sometimes.
Have a fun weekend.
