"When saucy Nigella renames her ‘slut’ recipes, it shows celebrity chefs have had their chips"
I spotted the headline and couldn't resist reading the piece, firstly because we have an interest in anything food-related as we worked in the sector for a long time and secondly because I like the word 'slut'. Camilla Long, love her or loathe her, does have a way with words and she made fun not only of Nigella Lawson's sex-laced presentational style but of the celebrity chef status in general and concluded that it's phenomenally successful run was coming to an end. The dross that now fills the endless hours of low quality cooking shows is z-list stuff and the media channels must surely know it and have some serious culling to do, although they'll wring every last penny they can out of them first, was the underlying gist of her article.
As for the (to some) luscious Nigella she described her as (I quote): an
"absolute hussy cramming her gorgeous gullet with all manner of
frothing cream and silky juices. Barely a show goes by without her
trying to overcome some mad, spurting piece of kitchen equipment, or
working the shaft of some aggressively knobbly vegetable, or fruitily
telling us she’ll show us her “liquorice box” later. It is pure filth."
Where does 'slut' come into all of this? Well apparently Nigella has
described items in her recipes as slut-coloured but has now had to
re-identify them using more appropriate language. Hilarious! I told P
about it and he laughed, he has always said Nigella was peddling her
sexuality to sell her tv slots and books but he's also said a few times
that she has some good plain tips too. Then he asked me what colour
'slut' was anyway and I didn't know the answer because there isn't one,
only what we might presume it to be. In my case slut-coloured conjured
up images of a rich ruby red backside after a good spanking, a
slut-spanking in fact. I told him and he said, 'You like that sort of
spanking don't you'. It was a statement not a question so I didn't
answer.
I just went slut-red and shuffled on my seat:)

Oh for Pete's sake! >eyeroll<. When I was 25 or so I used to watch some cooking shows, mostly "The Frugal Gourmet". Despite his later scandals, I credit him with teaching me to cook. It never occurred to me to picture him naked or imagining him whispering sexy secrets about quiche into my ears. I also liked Julia Child when she paired with Jacques Pepin, and likewise harbored no similar fantasies. I guess I was watching cooking shows back then to do the unheard of: actually learn to cook better. Now I don't watch anyone's shows and loathe 'cooking reality drama' if someone puts it on. I would consider watching Rachel Raye IF....and only if..... she was featured in a genuine televised crucifixion.
I had no idea who or what a "Nigella" was. Since the post subject was slutty cooking I figured perhaps 'nigella' was what one might get if a promiscuous person prepared your meal without washing their hands first. After I looked her up I realized I wasn't far off. I will say (sarcastically) that I was impressed with how much adversity she had to overcome to land her position. Truly someone who worked their way up from nothing based solely on their talent and hard work. LOL
As for pondering "slut-colored"? I imagine something like a purple,(perhaps grape?) custard, accented with busted (red) cherries?

I'm not a fan of cooking shows in general, but I do know of whom you speak.
And I guess one markets what one has in order to sell what one is selling?
Anyway, i don't know what colour 'slut' is either, but i imagine a peachy reddish hue might not be far off.
