My husband. Because he's got to have the front driver side suspension on his car replaced, no doubt victim to one or more of the sometimes quite deep pot-holes which seem to be increasing in number everywhere you drive these days, no doubt because our local councils don't have the funds to repair them, which they are obliged to do. But they are costing motorists a small fortune in repairs.
P was driving locally the other day when he got a strange bumping sound from down under. He stopped and phoned his local garage and they said it sounded like suspension but they had no one available at the time to attend and check it over so P called a breakdown service and they took the car to the garage. Sure enough it was suspension and the garage said they were dealing with similar cases in increasing numbers. Anyway P left the car with them and they've done it now but he's not happy. Someone said he should sue the local council, a few manage to do it successfully if they can prove adequately that it was poorly neglected road surface which caused the damage. That might be hard to do but the garage said they would help with a report detailing the damage with an opinion on likely cause but then he has to specify the actual pothole which he believes caused the problem and provide photos, date etc etc. Has anyone had similar bad luck on our roads and had any success getting a claim paid out by a local council? I'd be interested to pass any tips on to P, he hasn't decided yet whether to go for it or not but from the size of the bill, I'd say he ought to.
Stay safe.
Have a fun weekend.

Hi Ronnie,
That really sucks, and is so bad on the part of the councils. I thought our roads were bad enough! The comments from the garage were interesting, but perhaps not surprising.

Roz
Our roads are not too bad, although the snow is filling in any potholes at the moment. No work will be done on the roads until late spring. The worst for us are parking lots and roads in malls. They seem to be no one's responsibility and the holes are massive.
Hugs,
Hermione
Not the happiest of situations when one has to pay for a car repair. You may get lucky trying to sue the Council, but will probably involve a lot more aggravation. Might you suggest that P drive slower, so that he can avoid pot holes, and wherever water is pooling, as it might be a pothole. Could earn you a wee or great big spanking, so either he saves money in the future, or you are spanked. Seems like a win win

Gosh, that stinks. Over here I can’t imagine we’d get any gratification from a similar situation. Not on a public road. Maybe on private property. Wish you would win that one though!
Suing sounds like a lot of work for a losing proposition. P should take out his frustrations on your naughty bottom but putting you over his knee and giving you a jolly good spanking so that you will not be able to sit comfortably for the rest of the day.
Why does it sound like the same old story here? We complain about it. They patch it, then repair it again. A Counselman suspension is broke by the same section of road. They find money to fix his car and the road. It is nice to see it's not only American counsel personal that is full of crap!
Yes, I am a little annoyed because last summer I had to replace a tire and rim because they did not have money to repair that pothole properly. Plus, two years ago, they completely redid that section of the road. Why are we having problems with that road now? You have to love politics.

Gawds, that sounds really sucky. Glad it was fixable but oy, bills. Good luck with the decision-making on whether to go ahead with the suing.
Roz - You should see some of our roads. I said to P we should stop paying road tax but that would probably end up with a bigger fine that the cost of repair to the car:) Thanks.
Hermione - Some councils say they haven't the money to do any of the pot holes. Thanks.
Red - P's a very good driver and does try to avoid them when he can but sometimes you are on them before you realise. Thanks.
Minelle - Would be a good win but P has spoken to someone who tried it and it's a nightmare to try and do. Thanks.
Anonymous Anonymous - Thanks for that. I'll let him know your suggestion:) Thanks.
1ManView -Yes It's patch patch here and patch patch there so holes are going to appear all the time. Thanks.
Fondles - P's decided not to go ahead way too much trouble. Thanks.
Love,
Ronnie
