Don't lie to me

Who do you believe, your government, your local MP, your eminent scientist (or bunch of), your award winning journalists? I don't know any more, I think my next door neighbour's cat would have as good a chance of not lying to me than any of them. And scores of others unmentioned. Benjamin Disraeli once said: “There are three kinds of lies......liesdamned lies, and statistics."

I really don't know what to make of the latest UK lockdown, it seems illogical and poorly thought out and is, in my husband's view, disingenuous, a lie too many issued to placate a nation already fed up of being treated like idiots. P is unhappy because we can no longer have a meal out in spite of being in a very low infection risk locality, I'm unhappy about the Christmas 'respite' which might have huge consequences a few weeks later. We both agree that a full lockdown for everyone, with no let-up until a vaccination programme is successfully and measurably under way, would be the safest solution but of course we also know that for some that would be unbearable.

P said people would break the law if they made things that severe, adding that he would too. I told him I wouldn't but he just shrugged and said I'd have to if he decided to. Talk about waving a red rag to a bull, he does have a way of pissing me off sometimes, I bit back sharply that I didn't 'have to' just because he decided. He said we'd see about that at the time, if it happened. I thought he might engage me but he didn't, he just went upstairs to listen to some webinar. Bastard, he could at least have threatened to spank me. Maybe he will later, I thought.

He didn't.

Stay safe.

Have a good week.

Hi Ronnie, who knows where the authorities heads are at. Shame this didn't end with a spanking.

what a pity for you.

The way a teacher would have rated the UK government's handling of the pandemic I think would be poor. In my day that could have meant a visit to the Headmaster's office.......

At least where I live (a Greek island) the first lockdown was adhered to and enforced. It decimated our tourist industry, but the general feeling was better to be safe than not.

When we were rated at the start of the new wave, we were put in a higher tier than the data suggested (there have been no cases here) because all travel means ferry crossings from larger islands that had a number of cases putting them in the higher tier. This caused some resentment from the local population.

We are now in the 2nd lockdown, it is not a strictly adhered to because of the lack of cases on the island. Also we have very few visitors from the mainland or other islands at this time of year.

You feel annoyed because of a lack of cases in your area. Just think all it needs is for an infected (asymptomatic)) family to spend a day or two here and it could easily be transmitted to a large number of there were less restrictions.

I'm so confused by the lock downs and the good they do... I mean we had full lock down and then easing of restrictions and now?! we are recording higher numbers than in the spring. Our little town - back in the spring - only had 20 cases total! and no deaths.. now....... NOW we are averaging 4 a day and are up over 130 cases!!! It makes my head spin

I find people are getting very cranky - and aggressive. It's depressing.

I guess all that matters is what you can do to protect yourself and your family...

Stay safe!

Your lockdown does sound a bit haphazard, and I've seen the protests. Still, if it can contain the virus and stop the spread, it's a good thing.

We have also had a rise in cases, but no community spread, so it's reasonably safe here. But we are all advised to stay home for Christmas. Family is going to ignore that and come anyway, but we will just have a quick gift exchange with masks on, and no sit-down meal.

Hugs,
Hermione

Covid fatigue is just as real as Covid itself. I think your government wants to do what is right - your leader doesn't seem to be insane as ... Well anyway I'll just be glad when its all over.

We have higher numbers now in part because we are doing more tests than in the spring. In the spring we as a province were doing about 12-14 k a day and only frontline and sick people. I think yesterday we did over 39 k. But like everywhere just about the numbers are still going up.

I can feel your husband's annoyance Ronnie. My husband works in the hospitality field and it was locked down here for 28 days with a 2% transmission rate to appear consistent with the larger city that has a 14% rate. I don't think people need to go out to eat, personally but I do know that that business employs a lot of people both within their walls and with suppliers etc.

I have been saying for a while now that they should really stop telling us we can't do certain things and tell us how to execute them safely if we choose to. In addition to that charge people for blatant breaking of rules, instead of 'educating' them. It's been 10 months already, as if people don't know!

Hopefully P will take the edge off soon. Lol

I know how hard it is. It’s hard to predict. However I have family and friends working in our hospitals, it’s horrendous. So many terribly sick. Still see people not wearing masks.
I wish you’d gotten spanked, it would have helped the stress. Aaaannndddd been fun!

Roz - Out of all the EU countries, I think our Government has handled it badly. Thanks.

Anonymous - No, I'm not annoyed at the number of cases in our area, I'm very, very happy. It's just our Government could have looked at different areas instead of locking a whole county down though I do understand that if only certain areas of a county was locked down, people would be travelling across counties. Hopefully by late next year, travel to our EU spots will be on again. Thanks.

Morningstar - It's Christmas that worries me. We are being allowed three families to get together for 5 days so to be, there is going to be more people catching the virus and that would mean another lockdown in January. I just don't know what our Government is thinking and I don't think they really know either. Thanks.

Hermione - Haphazard isn't the word I'd use:) I think your Christmas sounds sensible. Thanks.

PK - They may want to do the right think, but they are not in my opinion. I'm all for locking down if that's the right way. I hope these vaccines work. Thanks,

Willie - It's the people that are losing their jobs and business shutting down I really feel for. A lot of our smaller pubs/restaurants wont open again. One of our Tiers is T2, you can go out to eat a substantial meal and have an alcoholic drink and then leave, other tiers could do the same. Who knows. I agree with educating people. Thanks.

Minelle - You are right, the main thing is to protect your yourself and family and be careful around other people. Thanks.

Ozarkhillbillyhippie - Nope, our Pm wont be gone by 2021. Thanks.

Stay safe.
