Gender Roles

Not about spanking per se, although this picture does feature in the article, but about gender roles and how they have changed....and how funny when an artist selects some genuine old (Mad Men era) ads and swaps the girls for boys. I love the one with the sauce bottle and also the one where hubby has been condescendingly reassured by his wife that his lousy cooking hasn't damaged the beers.

Artist Eli Rezkallah is re-imagining vintage advertisements in a way that would make “Mad Men" Peggy Olson proud.
Rezkallah’s new photography series, titled “In a Parallel Universe,” turns real-life, sexist mid-century advertisements upside down. The artist contrasts the original ads with new ones that reverse the gender roles depicted in the photos and copy. Every time a woman was originally shown, a man is in her place, and vice versa.

I can't imagine P reversing into any of the roles....and although I have seen him wear a kitchen apron from time to time to protect his clothing, I definitely can't imagine him damaging the beers:)

Have a fun weekend.

Over the week i found BIKSS lying face down naked in bed and i sat down and swatted him on the butt cheek. It felt mightily strange and WRONG. I cant imagine any reversal around here either. Thanks for sharing this!

No reversal huh? Content with traditional female roles. Makes my head feel like exploding. We share household chores. I do most of the cleaning, she does most of the cooking. Why? Well for one, I am better at cleaning and she is better at cooking. Tho I do cook some pretty mean dishes. Marriage is a partnership, we give each other what the other needs.

I think what these reversed ads are doing is very different than just postulating what it would be like to reverse roles in a relationship. Any D/s DD couple who has romanticized or sexualized a particular gender's dominance is free to stick with that role or switch if they feel like it. But these ads were meant to appeal to a large audience. What is particularly amazing about these original ads is that they were meant to APPEAL to women to SELL them things and decided to do so by taking broad gender-based stereotypes and belittling the targets of their very ad campaigns. Any role assumption based on gender is limiting and, depending on the message, potentially offensive to the gender being cast in the subordinate role. Even as the sub in our relationship, I would not take kindly to some outside ad agency trying to convince me to buy their product so that I stay on my dominant partner's good side.

Clever idea and funny, too. However, I think I will get up on my soapbox for a minute.

I am fairly sick of adverts on the TV and the radio that always feature a smart woman and a dumb man. That is the only way it is "politically correct" in this age. Nothing has really changed. There is still gender stereotyping. Piss on them all.

Hi Ronnie, :) These were interesting to look at. Fun project for this artist to undertake! Love some of those old ads that one comes across when viewing magazines from long ago, etc. Fun to look at, and think about.

Rob does a lot of cooking these days- he enjoys it more. I get to enjoy the good eats! LOL! We each do our thing to keep things in order around here.
Hope that you and P have a great weekend! Many hugs,

<3 Katie xoxo

Interesting. I took at quick glance but my phone was ringing so I walked away. In my mind, the woman was being spanked so when I came back and saw the reverse, I was shocked. Is there such a thing as dyslexic spanking?!

Fondles - Thanks. I bet that surprised him:)

Lindy - Thanks. I think we all do a little reversal of things.

Abby - I enjoyed Man Men as well. Thanks.

Roz - I thought amusing. Thanks.

OBB - Nothing to do with being content with tradition. P cooks (better than me) if I asked him to hoover, iron he would but I wouldn't want him to. Happy as we are.

Kdpierre - I agree and it just shows how times and attitudes have changed.......possibly even too far in the opposite direction but I'm not going down that road.

Ella - You can get on your soapbox anytime over here. Thanks.

Katie - Same here, P does the cooking and he's very good at it. I love the old ads as well, fun. Thanks.

Jan - You well could be LOL. Fun so I thought I'd share. Thanks.

Amy - It's possible. Just through interesting. Thanks.

Love,
Ronnie

I have to say that Ray has stepped in and up throughout our marriage. He has always done laundry, dishes, vacuuming. He's actually a better housekeeper than me. Cooking is not his forte, however, but he does a helluva job on the gri

Thankfully, we’ve come a long way from that era, though we still have a way to go.

Hermione - Those made me laugh. Thanks.

SG - P does most of our cooking. Cleaning, laundry no, but that's because I don't want him to. If I asked, he would. Thanks.

Rosie - You are right on that one. Thanks.

Though I'm not down for reversal personally in our lives, I so enjoy print like this. It makes for interesting media and conversation.
