I got an email from cane-iac on Sunday, I've pasted it below:-
A Word About Rattan:
Many of you have noticed that from time to time some of our popular rattan canes are out of stock, we are sorry for this. The supply of rattan reed continues to be scarce and very limited. As a result, prices for the reed continues to skyrocket. Our orders for raw material are shorted and at times some sizes of reed are completely unavailable. We want you to know that we are committed to keeping items in stock, offering you the best quality products and doing everything we can to keep our prices reasonable and under the competition.
I'd never thought about raw materials that way before, I mean P occasionally invests in companies which produce raw materials but I bet he's never looked at the rattan market. Maybe he should. But what's intriguing me is why the shortage? Has there been a massive rise in canings? Ouch!

I feel in the past mostly women received spankings. Today it's probably even with as many men being spanked as women, there fore it could cause a shortage. It just might be a good investment.
I will do my part and not suggest to R that she buys one to use on me, which will be more for you.

Interesting. When I think about spanking implements I certainly don't usually think about the raw materials to make them.

I promise you - I am not contributing to the shortage and I I had any here I'd be happy to sent it back to them. But It might be a good investment at that.
I'd be happy to plant a rattan patch in my back yard to provide Cane-iac with more of the raw materials to produce their excellent products. Sadly, it is a tropical plant and would not survive a Canadian winter.

I have not heard of a rattan shortage. My cane maker, who I visited recently, has plenty of raw rattan.

I guess raw material use is an indicator of the amount of bratting going on around the globe. It may well be a self-reinforcing process. So you better place your order NOW.
I love these comments. Some of you really need rattan canes, huh? Maybe I will get one for my wife to use on me. Good thing there is no wood shortage for paddles or we would really be up the creek without a, er ah, hmm, paddle. LOL

I don't like this at all and I'll tell you why. If they run out of rattan then people will have to buy delrin instead. Ouch!
