A good wife always knows her place

Are you a good wife?

This article "The Good Wife's Guide" was supposedly taken from a 1950's Housekeeping Monthly magazine, how true it is I'm not sure. I thought some of the suggestions would make you smile.

This reminds me of the part in Mona Lisa's Smile where the students are being taught proper wife etiquette.

Being of a certain age, I really doubt it's a fake. It's been going around the web for decade.

While I can understand how off-putting some of them are to the modern women, I can also reason that some of them are common sense. ie Why would a woman do things to provoke disharmony - unless she is a brat?

Don't complain if he stays out all night? They mention not complaining if he's late for dinner TWICE.

You know, a lot of it can be likened to a present day DD relationship. And other parts of it are what Flylady (www.flylady.net) advises - picking up clutter, planning dinner the night before. But "his ideas are always more important than yours"?

A great find!

Hugs,
Hermione

This cracked me up. Let him go where ever he wants, do whatever he wants and don't complain. Because his life at work is soooooooo hard....Hmm what about our lives at work?

I will now take us into the appropriated decade. The article said act a little gay when he gets home...does this mean have another woman there with you so that he can enjoy a "show"???? Sorry just had to put that one.

I loved this post!!! Made my morning. In fact I am going to forward the article to my HOH.

Child of God, Hello and welcome. Yes your right, funny, I saw that film for the first time last week, enyoyed it. Hope you will stop by again.

Sara - That makes two of us:). P will laugh when I show it to me. Hope your vacation is going well.

Our Bottom Burns - Yes I agree some of them are common sense but "his topics of conversation more important than yours, I dont think so.
Didn't realise the article had been going around the web, first time I'd seen it.

Hermione - Thank you. Yes your right and that's exactly what my aunt used to do. We often stayed with her during the holidays and I remember before my uncle got home from work, she would go around the lounge straightening this and that, plumming up the cushions and would always have a meal ready for him and we were told to be quite and to leave him alone while he ate.

Janet - LOL, great minds, that's exactly what I thought when I read the bit about "acting a little gay". Thanks, glad you liked it and I hope your HOH enjoys it.

Have a great weekend all, thanks.

Love,
Ronnie

Amazing how robotic women were expected to be. I would love to be the type to do most of those things without thinking but then again, I wouldn't be me.

PMSL....

THAT ARTICLE WAS WRITTEN BY A MIDDLE_CLASS MAN WITH A PLUM IN HIS MOUTH AND A PINEAPPLE UP HIS ASS......

Hahahahahahahahahahahaha!
Great find, Ronnie, I have seen something similar but not as hysterical as this!

Mouse - This would be norm for most UK women (not sure about the states) in the 50's. Many be a stay at home wife.

Hermione - Thanks will check it out.

Daisy - LOL, you know, your probably right.

Thanks all.

@Daisy--LOL!!!

I think it was Sara who said that DD inspired them to be nicer to each other. I know for me, I think more about taking care of my wife with smaller gestures than before.

This seems like a perfect recipe for training a man to be a helpless spoiled baby.

Hi Ronnie,
I enjoyed reading the article. My thoughts are with Bonnie as far as some things could pulled out and used today for dd, NOT ALL by any means! Good golly, I agree with Hermoine, STAY OUT ALL NIGHT?, and then near the end DON'T QUESTION HIM ABOUT HIS ACTIONS?
Where's the husband's companion guide? That could be interesting!
Mick said it, it should be a two way street, shouldn't it?

Mick - A lot of women were taken for granted in the the 50's, men would go out to the pub most nights without their wife and lots of women didn't work just stayed at home to look after house and kids.

It's lovely to hear your taking more care of your wife.

Elysia - Thanks, glad you enjoy it. Yes I agree, some definitely could be used for todays dd. The "His topics of conversatin are more important than yours" gets me.
I think I may have to do a "Good Husbands Guide", any suggestions:)

Thanks both, have a good weekend.

Love.
