Naughty wasp RIP

A while back I made fun of my husband because a teeny little wasp caught him unawares when he was planting a bush in the front garden. He got stung and made a song and dance about it as men do. I posted about it at the time.

Well I shouldn't have made fun because I got stung last week, Wednesday actually, and my wrist is still red and irritating me even now as I write and it's Sunday and I've got through half a tube of Anthisan! It's the first time I've ever been stung and I honestly didn't know how much they could hurt or last. I hadn't done anything to offend the little devil, it just landed on me and I felt its presence and then a sharp pain and when I waved my arm it wouldn't shake off it kept hurting and when I looked I could see it was clinging to me. I swiped it with my other hand and it certainly got off me then in fact if fell to the floor where I stamped on it. So it's gone to wasp heaven and good riddance, and I hope I never get stung again, I'll certainly be a bit more wary of them from now on.

I told P if the redness and irritation hasn't gone by tomorrow at the latest I'm going to call into the pharmacy and ask his advice. P said it would be gone and to stop thinking about it and stop rubbing it which only stirs it up more. He said if I'm still whingeing (I haven't been whingeing!) about it tomorrow he'll give me a real sting to think about and the wasp's efforts will pale into insignificance. It was said good naturedly and I know it was intended as a joke so I quickly said "Ooh yes please". Somehow I think P's remedy might be more fun than the pharmacist's.

Have a good week.

Sorry you got stung, Ronnie...I'm sure you're not carrying on the way P did. Wasps on sting once because they release their stinger in you and then die. Sounds like your wasp couldn't release his stinger. Are you sure you removed the stinger? Make a paste with a bit of baking soda and vinegar and put it on the sting...that should draw out the pain, redness and any swelling. Of course, P's remedy will definitely take your mind off any lingering irritation. ;)

Hugs and blessings...Cat

I beg to differ. Bees can only sting once and lose their stinger. Wasps can sting several times. One crawled up my leg into my trpuswr once and stung my thigh three times because it couldn not get out. It hurt like hell and made me cry as an adult from pain...

I hope you feel better now.

Anon is correct...I reversed wasp smooth stiners that can sting mutiple times with bees barbed stingers that sting once and detach in the process...killing the bee. Really think it should be the other way around...wasps are worthless...bees are valuable.

Thanks for the correction.

They are awful, and when I went to the pharmacist he just almost shrugged his shoulders and said yes can continue to itch, swell etc for up to two weeks.
I did learn that wasp stings are alkaline and should be treated with acid to neutralise and bee stings are acid so should be treated with alkaline substance such as bicarbonate or toothpaste.

There are good stings and bad ones, wasp's rates as the worst. Death to all wasps!

Hi Ronnie, oh ouch, sorry you were stung. I agree with DF, there are good stings and bad stings. I hope the bad sting stops soon and that P provides that distraction :)

Ouch! They burn sting! However if redness and swelling don't go away maybe you are allergic. Check it out if you need to.
Ps idea does sound like a delightful treatment however!

Isn't it funny how we relish the sting of paddle, belt and cane, but hate wasp and bee stings?

I'm very sorry to hear that you received the wrong kind of sting. Hope you feel better soon.

Hugs,
Hermione

I don't think, I know you're right. Hope your wrist is better even if you don't tell P.

May the wasp sting disappear, and a new sting develop soon thereafter.

Njspank - It's still red and itchy so maybe I have a mild allergy to wasps. Thanks.
