Spankless Task

We all know what a thankless task is; something you do which doesn't get thanked. My husband gave me a new word yesterday morning when I valeted his car and accidentally broke the little coin tray which hides under the dash.

He's got to pick up some people from Birmingham airport on Tuesday and bring them back to a local hotel. I told him on Friday his car needed a good clean, he told me it was clean and I agreed, it is on the outside but not on the inside. I said he should stop off and have it valeted. He said he would but he didn't, he changed his mind (or just couldn't be bothered) and thought it was ok. But a man's ok is different to a woman's ok so early on Sunday morning I took Dyson and some spray cleaner out to his car and gave it a thorough clean. Unfortunately the little coin tray, which folds down at the slightest touch, did just that but I hadn't noticed and I knocked it with the hoover and it broke and fell off and his parking coins scattered about the footwell.

I finished the task I'd set myself and then collected his coins and took a look at the little tray to see if I could get it back in place. I couldn't because a little spindle which hinges it had fallen down too and I didn't know how it fitted back. So I put the tray and the coins on his seat. I put the spindle in my pocket.

When I went back inside P was reading a newspaper. I told him I'd cleaned his car, he said it hadn't needed it, I said I'd done it anyway. His nose went back into his newspaper, ungrateful sod. Anyway he must have gone out to check it while I was in the shower because when I came downstairs the little plastic money tray was on the dining room table. He asked me what had happened and why I hadn't mentioned it. I just said I didn't know how it had happened it just fell off and I left it there for him to put back because, being a woman, I didn't know much about cars but I knew about cleaning them. On which subject, what did he think? Good job done? He gave me a disinterested 'yeah it's ok but it smelled of polish'. No pleasing some people.

"Don't I get even get thanked?" I asked.

"You can thank yourself lucky not to get spanked, never mind thanked, after breaking my coin tray," he said. "There's a part missing, I can't fix it."

"Oh dear," I said disingenuously, "careless me. Thankless task and now a spanking hanging over me." I couldn't help an inward smile.

My husband didn't react, he just said he was going to have a look in his toolbox and see if he had anything which he could adapt to make it work, he didn't have time to go to the garage tomorrow and certainly not the next day. I felt so guilty knowing the little spindle was in the pocket of my jeans. I wanted the spanking he'd mentioned but I didn't want my husband fretting over the silly little tray. I went back outside to his car, just for effect, and returned a couple of minutes later to present him with the shiny little spindle.

"Is this what it needs?" I asked innocently. "I found it under the footmat."

"Ah! Excellent!" He beamed. "Thank you. There you are you see, not a thankless task at all." He got up and pecked me on the cheek and hurried out to his car like a kid with a bag of sweets. He was back in less than five minutes, job done, coin tray fixed. He said he was going to make a cup of tea and did I want one. I asked him what about my spanking.

"Well you've escaped that, you're in my good books, thankless task not at all, I'm most grateful," he said, then thought for a bit and said, "I suppose you could say spankless though."

Hmm. I think I should have kept the spindle in my pocket:)

Have a good week.

LOL Ronnie...you should have pulled it out of your pocket and asked him if that's what he was looking for...with a nice smirk on your face. ;) The fact that you hadn't put it with the other parts and let him look for something to fix it with might have gotten you that spanking. Better luck next time.

Hugs and blessings...Cat

Hi Ronnie, spankless task...love it. I'm glad P was grateful of your efforts in the end, shame about the lack of spanking, better luck next time. Maybe you should have kept the spindle.

Hi Ronnie, You should have dangled the spindle in front of P face and asked is this what your looking for, with a giggle. That might have got you your spanking. What a spankless task! Better luck next time.

What a thoughtful woman you are, to clean his car. Isn't it funny how fixing those fiddly bits is man's work, though?

Hugs,

Sometimes you just can't win! Maybe you should confess all, maybe that could get you spanked.

You have more self control than I do. My mouth would have gotten me spanked and good.

it would have been fun for you if during the spanking he saw something in your back pocket bulging and it would have been the spindle.

Frustrating when you want and think you deserve a spanking and it doesn't happen.
